Some Interesting Statistics

Before getting into the method for choosing an engagement ring, it is important to note the current trends in the United States. Although women are becoming more involved in the decision process, only 60% of women are involved in selecting the engagement ring, while only 3% actually choose the ring themselves!!! This leaves the ultimate decision up to the guy!!! 74% of brides received diamond engagement rings. Also, Americans, on average, are engaged for 16 months (it was 11 months in 1990), to allow more time for planning the wedding. On average, Americas spend $3,165 on an engagment ring. Two popular brand names selling incredible engagement rings are Tiffany & Co and Harry Winston. Also, The Knot is an interactive website offering articles, advice, chat rooms, and tons of other information on engagements and weddings. Finally, a cool engagement ring gallery can be found on The Knot to help people choose engagement rings according to specific characterisitics. Check these sites out and Happy Browsing!!!

I am glad to see the site: the knot still going strong. they have been a good example of an industry site for everything weddings! unfortunately i have multiple experiences in purchasing engagement rings so i shall look forward to relearn (and perhaps if you discover the right site, i may auction what i currently have!)

I don't think the woman should be involved at all in choosing the ring. Thats like telling people what to get you for Xmas or your birthday, it takes away all the thoughtfulness, meaning, and symbolism behind the ring. The reason the wedding is 16 months after the ring is so the poor guy can get back on his feet financially after buying such an unnecessarily expensive ring.

the picture of the ring that you have on your blog is gorgeous. its a far cry from the ring that i'm wearing on my hand that might have cost $10 :)

I really like the sites you connected to your blog, especially the knot, a great daydreaming site. Its hard to believe that people we know are starting to get engaged, so crazy. Very interesting stats too!

hey, I thought it was quite interesting that you said that such a low percentage of women choose their ring considering that is one of things we hear about being their most important, or 2nd most important ring that they recieve in their lifetime. My sister recieved her engagement ring by her soon to be husband last summer and although she did not pick it herself, he went to buy the ring with her best friends and my mom, so I feel like it wasn't just his choice.

i agree with chris. i think that the person buying the ring should have full decision making power in the purchase. after all, it is supposed to be an expression of their love right?
